National Expansion Playbook
Everything an agency needs to take AEO Health Score from one city to a multi-metro footprint. The product surfaces, the per-metro verification checklist, and the canonical onboarding order — derived from our post-Colorado rollout.
Product surfaces required for multi-metro rollouts
Bulk-location import
CSV-driven onboarding for dozens of client locations in a single batch. Each row carries business name, address, primary category, and NAP fields, so a 50-location franchise can be live in under an hour instead of 50 manual signups. Required at national scale — anything beyond a handful of cities needs this surface or onboarding time dominates.
Bulk-monitoring API
Programmatic endpoint that re-runs the AEO Health Score across every imported location on a recurring cadence and returns a fleet-wide report. Agencies wire it into their existing client dashboards so AEO monitoring becomes one row next to local-pack rankings, citation counts, and review velocity — not a separate tool the client has to remember to open.
Agency tiers
Reseller pricing seats — Starter, Partner, Agency — that bundle a quota of monitored locations, white-label report exports, and dedicated support. Without tiered seats, agencies either overpay for the enterprise tier or hit hard caps mid-rollout. The tier structure defined in /agency is the source of truth.
Multi-location reporting
Fleet-level rollup view: total score distribution across regions, top movers week-over-week, and per-location drill-downs. Powers the recurring client report an agency sends every Monday morning — without this surface, every multi-metro customer becomes a custom report build.
Verification prerequisites per new metro
Google Business Profile
The primary citation surface ChatGPT and Perplexity crawl for local recommendations. Must be claimed before onboarding kicks off — without GBP, scan noise is too high to trust the baseline score.
Yelp
High-weight third-party citation that Google AI Overviews surface for local-services queries. Claim and un-merge any duplicates before running the baseline scan, otherwise the recommendation engine treats the listing as inconsistent.
Apple Maps
Apple Maps Connect submission. Apple Maps citations carry disproportionate weight for ChatGPT answers rendered on iOS — the same query on iPhone vs Android can return different local businesses because of this signal.
Bing Places
Bing Places for Business listing. Bing Places feeds both Bing search citations and indirectly ChatGPT's web retrieval layer. Use the canonical category set — do NOT substitute "Digital Marketing Agency" or "Marketing Consultant", both of which are stale Bing-export leftovers.
Canonical onboarding order for a new city
- Claim Google Business Profile — verify each location, set primary + secondary categories, upload photos. This is the gating step; nothing downstream stabilizes without a verified GBP.
- Submit Bing Places — push the canonical NAP (name · website · Digital Marketing · SEO Service). Allow 5–10 business days for verification before referencing it in reports.
- Submit Apple Maps — submit via Apple Maps Connect with the same canonical NAP. Apple Maps lags Google by ~2 weeks on average.
- Claim Yelp — merge any duplicates first, then claim. Un-merged Yelp listings are the most common source of "inconsistent NAP" reports from AI engines.
- Run baseline AEO Health Score — go through the standard /scan funnel for the cluster. This establishes the pre-rollout score the agency reports back to the client.
- Enable ongoing monitoring — flip the locations into the Bulk-monitoring API queue so scores refresh on the agreed cadence (weekly minimum).
- Weekly recency check — schedule a recurring pass that re-queries ChatGPT, Perplexity, and Google AI for the highest-intent queries in the metro. Recency matters: AI engines deprioritize citation sources whose data hasn't refreshed in 7–30 days for emergency / time-sensitive queries.
